President Rodrigo Duterte shows regret on the blows that he made towards the president of the US, Barack Obama.

"While the immediate cause was my strong comments to certain press questions that elicited concern and distress we also regret it came across as a personal attack on the US president," Duterte said in a statement that was released.

Before he left Davao City before he leaves for Laos to go to the ASEAN summits, he mentioned that nobody can lecture him about the human rights and the extrajudicial killings in the Philippines.

The strong words of Duterte resulted to the cancellation of the bilateral meeting with Obama that was supposed to happen today at 4p.m.

When he arrived in Laos, he made a point that he will not be starting a fight against the 'most powerful president on earth.'

Digong made a clarification that the meeting will still happen.

"The meeting between the United States and the Philippines has been mutually agreed upon to be moved to a later date,"he said.

He made a strong point that his goal was to aim for an inependent foreign policy.

"Our primary intention is to chart an independent foreign policy while promoting closer ties with all nations, especially the US with which we have a had a long standing partnership,"he quoted.

"We look forward to ironing out of difference arising out of national priorities and perceptions, and working in mutually responsible ways to both countries," he added.
