On Monday, September 19, Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo slammed Duterte for breaking his word to the Filipino people that he will step down from his position when he fails to end criminality in the Philippines within the first 3 to 6 months of his presidential term.

The bishop recalled Duterte's promise to end crime and drugs in the country within a 3 to 6 months time frame that will start as soon as he assumes Presidency. However, Duterte has asked for an extension of the time frame he imposed and this has caused the bishop to criticize him and to assert that Duterte should not be trusted.

"In the campaign, he categorically said the drug problem would be solved in six months or he would step down. But he is not a man of one word. His words cannot be trusted and he gives a lot of excuses," the catholic bishop said. Pabillo asked Duterte to have a resolution on the increasing rate of poverty in the country and to improve the rehabilitation program for the citizens who want to change their lives after being involved in crime and drugs.

Prior to this, Pres. Duterte said that he did not expect the severity of crime and drugs in the country and the number of people who are involved in the illegal drug trades, so he is asking the Filipino people for another 6 months to end it.

"That self-imposed time of three to six months, I did not realize how severe the problem of the drug menace in this republic until I became president,” Duterte said in a press conference.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) asked the faithful Filipino people to pray for peace, order and unity in the country using the Holy Rosary.

“We have forgotten to pray. We have neglected to pray. We have been too busy with ourselves building our towers of Babel… Let us pray as a united nation,” CBCP president Archbishop Socrates Villegas quoting from kami.com
