The intensified campaign against illegal drugs of President Rodrigo Duterte and the Philippine National Police (PNP) is slowly showing remarkable results after the crime rate dropped by 49% in comparison to last year according to PNP Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa.

"This only goes to show that most of these crimes that are happening in our communities are drug-related. That’s why when we focused our resources and attention on the drug problem, crimes also dropped," says the PNP Chief among hundreds of police authorities at Camp Alagar.

Crime rates went down by a significant number all across the country, even in Northern Mindanao as records show that the crime rate dropped by 44% in July compared to the last two years of the same month.

PNP-10 confirmed so saying the crime record in the said region last year of July was 3,983 which went down to 3,171 and now 1,974 in 2016.

"Our assessment points to the link and direct effect of the diminished presence of illegal drugs in the streets as a result of the intensified anti-illegal [drug] campaign," says PNP-10 spokesperson Supt. Surki Serenes.

Serenes further noted that the dominant crimes were mostly drug-related namely theft, robbery, rape and domestic violence and abuses.

"This campaign is just starting," the PNP Chief said. "Let us continue with our campaign as long as what we are doing is in compliance with the law and respect for human rights."
