Following the big rescue ship given by Japan about a month ago, Japan announces that they would be giving the Philippines 2 new vessels to better Manila's defense and its patroling capacity against alleged Chinese plans with regards to maritime dispute.
But wait, there's more! Japan is conversing with the government about leasing surveillance aircraft for the under-equipped coast-guard.
These are on top of the 10 coast guard ships that was earlier pledged to former President Benigno Aquino.
Masato Ohtaka, deputy secretary for Japan's foreign ministry stated: ""We are talking about big-sized, 90-meter (295-foot) long vessels. We are also discussing the possibility of leasing aircraft designed for training. They are surveillance aircraft,"
The strong bond between the two nations continues with Philippine's new President, Rodrigo Duterte. Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and President Rodrigo Duterte are discussing about new ships, not for Manila, but for Davao.
"(I don't want) to start hostilities at this time of our lives and he said Japan would do the same. They just want dialogue. They do not want further incursions," President Duterte said.
They are also discussing about a 38-kilometer elevated commuter line to connect Manila and Bulacan to somehow help ease the traffic.
