Philippines might just have another contender for medal after Hidilyn Diaz as Eric Cray advances to the semi-finals of 400m hurdles in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Eric is a two-time gold medalist in the Southeast Asian Games and a record holder before competing in the Olympics. He is a Filipino-American born in Olangapo City but he was raised in Texas and now representing the Philippines.

The 27-year-old  was able to land third in Heat 4 with the time of 49.05 seconds held at the Olympic Stadium. He was beaten by Keisuke Nozawa representing Japan who finished first with the time of 48.62 seconds and Thomas Barr of Ireland with the time of 48.62- who placed second.  He will be proceeding to the semis even though he was not able to beat his personal best of 49.98 seconds.

But if he would be able to beat his own record, he will have the chance to compete in the finals.

"That's the goal - get through the preliminaries,"said Cray.

Philippine chef-de-mission Jose Romasanta is also positive and said "Let's take it step-by-step. He's in the semis now, and the next goal is to get to the finals."
