The first ever Olympic Gold Medal of the Singapore was brought home by Joseph Schooling after he won the race against Michael Phelps

The notable swimmer was denied of his supposed to be 23rd Olympic Gold medal. He was defeated on the last solo race of his career, the 100m butterfly final.

Joseph Schooling, 21 years old, finished with an Olympic Record time of 50.39. For the 2nd place, Phelps had a triple tie with Chad le Clos of South Africa and Laszlo Cseh of Hungary. With the finishing time of 51.14, all were given silver medals.

During the world championships last year, Schooling brought home the bronze medal. But when he finished first, he roared in delight and punched the water.

"I told him to go 4 more years and he said 'No way.' Hopefully he changes his mind. That was fun. I like racing Michael," talking about the reaction of Michael Phelps.

Joseph Schooling already won 9 gold medals from the previous competitions in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games.

"It's wild," Phelps said about the race. "Chad and I have had some races over the last 4 years and Laszlo and I - I can't even remember when I first raced him... so it's kind of special and a decent way to finish my last individual race."
