Hidilyn Diaz, the Olympic silver medalist was called by the President Rodrigo Duterte at the Presidential Guest House in Panacan, Davao City last Thursday. 

In a live report that was shown in the government station PTV-4, Diaz was seen with her parents Emelita and Eduardo as a meeting was held with Duterte around 10pm. 

The P5 million check was given to Diaz by Duterte as an incentive for  finishing 2nd place at the weightlifting event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She took home the silver medal. 

Also, the president Duterte said that an amount of P2 Million pesos to the winnings of Diaz. Duterte claims that he watched the finals of the weighlifting event. 

"It is with great pride that I present Hidilyn Diaz, a ZamboangueƱa," said Duterte. 

He added: "If we put just put in the discipline and a little help from the national government, we'd get miracles and surprises along the way."

He then made a point that the Filipino athletes' should be well taken care of by the government. 

"They go into training with nary a worry about anything but focus on the training," said the President who promised that he will be constructing sports facilities in Zamboanga and Negros to build up and enhance more talent in sports. 

An institute for sports is bound to be established by the administration of Duterte as soon as the government will be shifted to federal form as said by the Philippine Sport Commission Chairman William 'Butch' Ramirez.
