The animosity between President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Leila De Lima continues and may in fact have worsen as the weepy senator slammed Duterte's "foul character assassination" as he made an indirect remark about an immoral woman.

During a speech in Camp Crame, Duterte mentioned about a senator who opposes his anti-drug campaign claiming that it is "politicking" and "posturing" when the woman herself is immoral.

"Here is an immoral woman ... insofar as the wife of the driver is concerned, it's adultery. Here is a woman who funded the house of her lover, and yet we do not say any complaint about it," the President fired.

Although Duterte haven't dropped a name, De Lima quickly reacted to his statement.

"Ang first reaction ko lang, ayaw ko nang patulan yan. I don't want to dignify that. It's so foul. It's character assassination," she said.

"Pareho po naman kaming propesyonal ng pangulo. Pareho kaming public servants so sana hindi na ho siya nagre-resort sa ganyan na foul means. To me that's very foul," she said with a discreetly cracking voice.

De Lima further dropped a few comments saying the President should "double check" the information he gets before quickly publicizing such bold allegations. She also said that her efforts in protecting human rights by investigating the widespread killing under the new administration will not easily be shaken.

"Hindi po [ako] matitinag."

"I don't know kung ano po agenda nila that they are resorting to character assassination. That is a very clear case of character assassination, I did not expect the President to do that. Sa totoo lang," she said.

President Rodrigo Duterte gave hints about the alleged "immoral" woman he is referring to saying she once led an investigation on the supposed Davao Death Squad.

Under De Lima's reign as the Commission on Human Rights Chair, an investigation linking the former mayor turned President to the DDS was made.

De Lima also was the one who initiated filing for an investigation on the widespread extrajudicial killing that is now happening under the President's term.

De Lima have once been accused of having an "illicit affair" with her driver and also fugitive Cesar Mancao after whistleblower Sandra Cum gave her affidavit.
