It has been 14 years not since the students who top-ranked their classes in Mt. Diwata Elementary School and Mt. Diwata High School located in Monkayo, Compostella Valley received 15-gram real gold medals. This is worth 35 thousand pesos. The medals came from the barangay council of Davao, Philippines.
These students are entitled to do whatever they wanted to do with these medals. Though this is a memorabilia of their achievement, most of them are selling the medals because of the difficulty in life.
Most families are living in the mining village where there are tons of golds. But the students are from the small-scale miners.
Sadly, they are using the real gold medals to trade it in exchange of money for their food and necessities.
